And I believe today's comic included "fag" as well.

Well I'm glad it wasn't just me that was bothered by it. Sometimes I think I'm being too sensitive.

Here's the deal. You can sit through Blazing Saddles and laugh. You can adore Strangers with Candy and watch it's seasons over and over.

Heck Strangers With Candy is the worst example of tolerance. It was immoral, racist, sexist, homophobic, classist, it mocked infidelity, illiteracy, drug use, underage sex, stds, vandalism, bestiality, drinking and driving, rape, homelessness and theft. That was the goal of almost every episode!

That doesn't mean you can't recognize an offensive gay joke when you hear it.

You've got one community of gamers who use us as epithets on XBox live and every other online game. Then you have another community that is literally fighting for its right to live.

That's one of the reasons I don't play online games. There is enough of that in reality, don't need it in my diversions!

This keeps coming up in my WoW guild. It's an LGBT guild, but some people do the whole "that's gay" thing without any sense of irony, and other people (sometimes me) can't handle it.

It's a learned behavior that you shouldn't have to tolerate.

There's nothing wrong with objecting to other people's language, or expecting a general rule of behavior.

On the other hand, why are you playing WoW with 12 year olds? ;-)

They're all adults! That makes it 10x worse :(((

Re: Nice work, guys.

Yeeeah, because everyone knows that using "fag," "gay" and "faggot" as degrading so-called "jokes" isn't homophobic. *rolls eyes*

The strip you point out has to do with the Guitar Hero: Decades commercials. Maybe you should try watching one and informing yourself before attempting to use what you clearly think is superior snark, because you actually come off as closed-minded and lazy. Not to mention plain old wrong.

But... but aren't all the characters being offensive portrayed in the negative? The guy in the crowd, the political blogger, Gabe himself - they're playing mean, wrong or stupid, invalidating their point, right?

Exactly. We're invited to ridicule these characters for their insecurities constantly. One comic is specifically satirising a bigoted "computer games are evil" campaigner.

Even in the most recent example, gay people are not being ridiculed or insulted at all from what I can see. The point is that the Tycho characters feelings are ridiculously built up and have a component like sexual urgency/lust to them. That's what's being communicated. The fact the clerk is male is there to highlight how strong this is, because the character is heterosexual and not because there is anything wrong with gay people.

Not sure who you or any of these other folks are, but welcome?

Somehow, "it's not offensive to me" doesn't quite cut it, but thanks.

My point is that each one of these shows gays being used as their punch line, regardless of the context. It's pointed inward, its used as blue humor, all those points are true, but they don't take away from the fact that gays, "faggot," male/male sexuality is PA's go-to device.

Personally, I'd be very happy if straights stopped using the word 'fag' altogether.

I don't need the general consensus of PA's forum (or where ever these people I've never seen on my flist before) to tell me how to take a gay joke. I know how to take a gay joke, I've heard it all my life.

I understand you don't think these comics are a problem. PA clearly doesn't either.

Cheers.

I knew there was a reason I don't read PA. The few I clicked on, the butt of the joke was "and he's gay, har, har." Yuck.
